In keeping with the theme of Youth Month, the Centurion Sun features a local young athlete who is not just talented with a tennis racquet but also quite remarkable with a microphone.
Budding young musician, Kylan Chetty (20), of Mingerhout Avenue, Heuweloord, is set to release his debut single 'Just let go', next Wednesday, (June 27).
In addition, not only is this youngster just a talented musician, but is also currently completing his second year BSc (Physics) at the University of Pretoria (UP), whilst also undertaking various other projects to boost his sporting and musical career.
In 2013, Kylan Chetty began his tennis career at the age of 15, playing for the Clubview Tennis Club in Centurion. He was then selected for the Gauteng North Provincial team in 2015, finishing as the runner-up in the Gauteng North Spring Tournament 2015 and winning the Gauteng North Inter-Provincial Tournament, that very year.
Whilst playing for the University of Pretoria (UP) tennis team, in the last 2 years, representing Tuks at various tournaments countrywide, including the grand USSA (University Sports South Africa) Tennis Tournament, Kylan was selected for the TSA (Tennis South Africa) Beach Tennis Tournament in Johannesburg in the first weekend of June, where the young lad finished in second place.
The young sportsman enthused to the Centurion Sun: "I didn't expect to perform this well, I just play tennis because I enjoy bat and ball sports, but I'm ecstatic with the outcome."
Kylan's music journey started at the tender age of 11, as a self-taught guitarist, playing both classical and electric guitar. Kylan said: "My dad used to play guitar and I always looked up to him as a kid. When my parents gifted me my first guitar, I just sat for hours every day watching musical videos on Youtube to teach myself everything I could possibly learn about playing the instrument."
He enthused that the fulfilment he gained from learning to play the guitar so quickly led him to expand his musical talent, by learning to play various other instruments, such as the piano, acoustic drums, the harmonica and the bass guitar.
Kylan added that he was encouraged to receive vocal training in November 2017, and has now composed five songs, and will be, debuting his first single and music video, next Wednesday (June 27).
He enthused: "I was just playing my guitar one day, when I came up with a beautiful melody. Then , I decided to produce a full song using all the knowledge I've acquired about music thus far. My first song titled, 'Just let go' is a Pop song about love and I hope anyone listening to it enjoys it as much as I enjoyed making it."
Kylan concluded by saying: "What makes my music different is that I play my instruments live and record them , instead of computer producing them."
'Just let go' will be released on all major platforms, including Youtube, Spotify and Apple Music. Find Kylan Chetty (@theonlykylan) on Instagram, for a snippet of his debut single.
