Abdooly bids farewell to family and friends ...leaves heart-wrenching note behind

Family members and friends were in shock after news of the death of a former sheriff, and owner of a function venue, was circulated on social media.

After spending years, dedicating his life to his job as a sheriff, the well-known local personality, was found with a bullet wound to his chest at the Rebecca Street Cemetery, this past Monday (February 19).

The previous day (Sunday, February 18), Abdool Carrim Ebrahim (Abdooly) said his farewell to close family members and friends, telling them that he was leaving this world the next day. The next morning, Abdooly drove his bakkie to the Rebecca Street Cemetery, and after paying respects to deceased family members, Abdooly sat in his vehicle, apparently all ready to leave this world. According to a family friend, it is believed that with a revolver in hand, a fatal shot into the left side of his chest was triggered. Before noon, Abdooly’s body was discovered and family members were traced and informed accordingly.

A family friend told the Laudium Sun that they were informed by a member of the CMB Burial Committee, that a three-page letter was found near Abdooly’s body, in which it was written, amongst other things, an explanation of past hardships he suffered and also a plea for forgiveness from those whose feelings he had hurt. The CMB Burial Committee member apparently also said that, in the note, Abdooly insisted that certain family members should not attend his funeral. The Laudium Sun received many calls from community members who claimed that Abdoooly was highly stressed these past few months, due to personal problems and after being dismissed as a sheriff in the Tembisa area.

*During November last year, when the Laudium Sun was informed by so called friends of Abdooly, that he had been dismissed as a sheriff, we approached him for comment. Abdooly pleaded with the Laudium Sun not to print the story and said “The truth will soon be revealed. There are people close to me who are trying to frame me and cause harm to me. Please, I’m begging you not to put the story in now, it will harm my family. I will give you the full story early next year and you will be shocked to hear who the people are, who are trying to harm me. The Almighty is great, justice will prevail soon.” The Laudium Sun indulged Abdooly by not printing the said story at that time.

Abdooly Tayob’s body was found in his bakkie, at the Rebecca Street Cemetery, nearby the Muslim section, where many of his family members are buried. He sustained a fatal bullet wound to his chest. A firearm believed to be his, together with a farewell note were found nearby.

In happier times, the late Abdooly Tayob (55).
