Biker takes off after crashing into taxi

What started off as a restful close to a busy weekend this past Sunday (February 11), ended with a bang, when the rider of a motorbike allegedly slammed into a minibus taxi on the Military Road, in Laudium.

Witnesses allege that the accident may have been the fault of the motorcyclist who also fled the scene before police or other traffic officials could arrive.

According to the accident report, the collision occurred at around 3.40pm, when the motorcyclist crashed into the minibus taxi, affecting the flow of traffic along the road. The biker then allegedly jumped off his bike and fled the scene on foot, leaving his motorcycle just as it was, to avoid any accountability. Spokesperson for emergency service company, Safe-T-Med Africa, Barry Malvern, said that while the exact condition of the motorcyclist was unknown, it was safe to say that he had managed to escape without any serious injury, based on his ability to have fled the scene so hastily. Laudium Disaster Management also arrived on the scene not long after and were able to clear the road, allowing normal traffic flow to resume on the busy roadway. Police on scene said that the incident was still being investigated.
