The Gift of the Needy Foundation successfully completed Phase 1 of their Water Relief campaign by distributing 5000 litres of mineral bottled water to several drought-stricken areas in Cape Town, from February 16 - 21.
The Department of Water and Sanitation has imposed a 45% restriction on the City's water use for the current hydrological year (November 1‚ 2017 to October 31‚ 2018) in an effort to prolong the inevitable approach of “Day Zero,” the day that most Cape Town water channels are supposed to run dry.
The Gift of the Needy Foundation went on to aid those who were hit the hardest by the drought, namely:
- Springs Way, Newlands, Cape Town,
which is also a pick up and distribution point for the locals
- Agape School for children with learning disabilities
- The League of Friends of the Blind
- Baitul Aman Old Age Home
- Vision Child and Youth Care
- Lotus River
Speaking to the Laudium Sun, Faiaz Magid, director of the Gift of the Needy Foundation, thanked everyone who came together to assist and contribute towards water relief in Cape Town. “It has been very difficult to access mineral water because of the water shortage,” he said, adding “Any help is always needed and most appreciated.”
Water relief was provided to needy families in Cape Town by the Gift of the Needy Foundation.
