The four suspects arrested for the armed robbery that took place in Claudius on November 9, had their first court appearance on Monday, November 13 and the case was then postponed to last Wednesday, for a bail hearing. Three of the four suspects arrested, were remanded in custody and unfortunately one was granted bail.
Yusuf Moosa (a gardener previously employed in Claudius), and regarded as the kingpin, was granted bail of R2000, much to the disappointment of many residents. The other three suspects had previous convictions against them, and therefore bail was denied to them.
Speaking to the Laudium Sun, Aboobaker Gani, of the Claudius Residents Association, said that whilst they welcomed the continued detention of the three suspects, they were very disappointed that neither the police nor the prosecution objected vigorously to the fourth suspect being granted bail.

The alleged mastermind behind the recent Claudius robbery, Yusuf Moosa, a Malawian national, was granted bail of a mere R2000.
