This past weekend (January 20 and 21), a friendly cricket tournament took place at the Laudium Cricket Oval, whereby Laudium teams also participated.
In the first round, it was Laudium vs Atteridgeville on Saturday. Laudium won the toss up and was elected to bat first.
Kaashif Syed, the opening batsman, top scored with 86 runs, with Naseem Mohamed, the number 3 batsman, hitting 56 runs. Om Thakkar, the team's all-rounder, scored 67 of 37 balls. At the end Laudium scored a total of 279 for 6.
Thereafter, Laudium came out to bowl and immediately put Atteridgeville under pressure. Every bowler contributed to restrict Atteridgeville who scored only 130 for 8 after 45 overs.
During the next game with Mamelodi, on Sunday, Laudium found themselves struggling at 30 for 5 before Mohamed Yousuf and Mohammed Carim (Captain) started the fight back. Mohamed Yousuf ended on 33. Zubair Osman then joined Mohammed Carim and both took the attack to Mamelodi. Zubair ended on 47 of 34 balls. Mohammed Carim ended on 64 of 79 balls.
When Mamelodi came out to bat, Laudium's opening bowlers troubled the batsmen from the first over. Mohamed Yousuf, taking 3 for 23 and Zainul taking 2 wickets in the opening spell.
Yaseen Ebrahim, the first change bowler, took 1 for 11 in 5 overs, keeping up the good start. Kaish, the leg spin bowler, ended up with 3 wickets.
Mamelodi bowled out for 102 in 26 overs.
Laudium won by 143 runs against Mamelodi. Laudium scored 245 for 9.
