A 47-year-old Taj Street resident was arrested at a car dealership on Rebecca Street, Pretoria West, by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) last Monday (February 5), for allegedly submitting fraudulent income tax returns thereafter receiving payments of a million Rand.
Spokesperson for the Pretoria West Cluster Police, Captain Samson Baloyi, said that Roshan Singh appeared in court on Tuesday (February 6) for allegedly defrauding the South African Receiver of Revenue (SARS) between 2016 and 2017.
"He allegedly submitted fraudulent income tax returns and received payments totalling approximately a million Rand as a result," Samson said.
"The team from the Serious Commercial Crime Unit of the Hawks arrested the suspect on Monday at a car dealership on Rebecca Street following investigations," he added.
Samson said Roshan was facing charges of fraud and remained in custody for bail.
The matter has been adjourned until Wednesday, February 21.
