It was with great sadness and shock that the local community learned of the passing of Laudium’s mother and well-known community activist, Rajambal Kollapen (91), fondly known as Aunty Thanga.
No words can do justice to best describe the caring and affectionate aunt who was adored by everyone, irrespective of age, religion or race. To the very end, Aunty Thanga lived a selfless life and cared more for the community and her family than for herself. The elderly and less fortunate were always her soft spot. News of Aunty Thanga’s untimely death, on Wednesday night, was received with disbelief and grief as locals awoke yesterday morning (Thursday, Jan 11). The shocking news was received by us at the time of going to press. Thus we intend to carry a more in-depth story of this great pioneer in our next issue of the Laudium Sun and we invite readers to submit their tributes by next Tuesday. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Kollapen family at this very trying time.
