It was a day of fun and sporting action as our elders got together, this week, to participate in various sports activities, showing that, despite their age they still have the va-voom.
The Laudium Mental Health Society worked with the Laudium Care Services for the Aged to put together the 22nd annual ‘Sports Day for the Aged’, which took place yesterday (Thursday, April 19), at the Sunrise School grounds. Many local senior citizens gathered with great enthusiasm, to participate in various activities, ranging from brisk walks to the Macarena dance.
Chairperson of the Laudium Mental Health Society, Adila Soondka, enthused to the Laudium Sun that the turnout at this year's Sports Day for the Aged was impressive, with the seniors really appreciating the range of activities that were aimed at promoting healthy living and active ageing.
"The day was enjoyed by the elders who participated in the various events, also socialising with their peers. Afterwards, all were treated to a scrumptious lunch sponsored by the Laudium KFC. It was really a joy to see the community coming together to rally behind our elders. I would also like to thank the students of the Tshwane Muslim School for their support in the preparations and handing out fruit parcels to the elders. Last but not least, I would like to thank the Laudium Sun for their unwavering support in all our endeavours," Adila concluded.
At the Sports Day for the Aged: Laudium elders, Savatri Padayachy (88) of 6th Avenue, Premla Rugber (75) of Primrose Street, Kadija Mohamed (77) of Mendhi Street, Villima Arnachellan (84) of Mustard Street and Kistana Pillay (89) of Kashmir Crescent.
