A Brown Street resident was accosted by a lone armed thug last Sunday (June 24), whilst on his way to church on Primrose Street, at around 9am.
"This is without a doubt the worst experience of my life," the still shaken Marcus 'Fido' Pillay told the Laudium Sun.
"I was on my way to the Bethesda Church that Sunday morning, and was walking along Brown Street just outside the Laudium Cemetery, when this creep came out of nowhere right in front of me and gave me this sinister smile. I knew what I was in for when he pulled a gun that he had in the front of his jeans and pointed it at me. In barely a whisper he told me to hand over my phone and money," Marcus recalled.
"I at first thought I should scream for help, but something in my gut told me that if I shouted for help there was a chance that this criminal might shoot me. I handed over my cellphone and the only money I had on me was the tithes I intended giving in church, so I gave that over. When the thug got what he wanted, he jumped the devil’s fork fencing leading into the graveyard and ran towards the bushes to the left of the cemetery. I started screaming for help and got the attention of someone who helped me phone the police and also alert other residents of the robbery. Some of the guys went looking for the criminal in the bushes, but they came back without any luck. I was left so disappointed and also angry at the fact that I had missed my Sunday worship and also got robbed by that spineless criminal," Marcus fumed.
"I have seen this guy hanging out on the streets of White Blocks before and I vow that I will find him and make sure that he gets what he deserves, because I'm sure he will try his luck again on some other unsuspecting resident," Marcus concluded.
Laudium SAPS confirmed that a case of armed robbery has been opened and is still under investigation. No arrests have been made, as yet.
