The Tamil community will celebrate New Year (Vilambi Varusham 5119), also known as Puthandu, tomorrow (Saturday, April 14). This day is celebrated by devotees, with neem flowers and raw mangoes, which symbolise growth and prosperity.
Sathia Pillay, of the LTA, joins other leaders of the Tamil community in extending warm wishes for the new year, "Let faith, courage and self-confidence lead us to the realisation of our objectives. Let us remember that sound principles and values are absolute essentials for success. Let our goals be specific and measurable. Let us stretch and extend ourselves to accomplish these goals. We look forward with spiritual hope, renewed vision and enthusiasm, giving lead and positive direction in all matters which we consider as relevant to the moral, sacred, educational, cultural and economic upliftment of the esteemed community we serve. Let us rise to carry out our respective roles and responsibilities with pride, distinction and in obedience to Tamil consciousness.”
