Shameless thieves have no respect for religion

A Heuweloord homeowner has been left devastated after a recent break-in at his home, but is more disturbed by the fact that the thieves stole something that is, according to him, his most precious possession!

Home owner, Selvin Pillay (45) detailed to the Laudium Sun, the events that occurred this past Saturday (October 28). “I was fast asleep and was awoken by a loud noise in my house at around 3:30 am. I immediately jumped out of bed to investigate the suspicious sounds and discovered that my kitchen door was ajar. I assumed the worst and soon discovered that my fears were not far from the truth ! The kitchen was in complete chaos and so was the lounge area. I was alone at home, so I quickly phoned my son, Jashen, to inform him of what had happened as he was away with friends,” said the 45-year-old insurance broker. “The avaricious thieves got away with the LED TV from the lounge as well as a DVD player and other electronic items but what shocked me the most was that my prayer items from the dining room had also been stolen. I cannot believe that these shameless criminals would take my statue of Christ! Do they have no reverence for God or are they not afraid to steal sacred items from a prayer place. They truly have no shame!

The items that these thugs stole will probably sell for a few rand, but they were part of my family heirlooms and some of them belonged to the Saint Thomas Catholic Church in Monavoni! My only wish now is that these unscrupulous criminals get what's coming to them, after being so disrespectful to my religion!” said the extremely aggrieved Selvin. Another Heuweloord resident, Nitesh Govender, told the Laudium Sun that he believes that criminals will not stop targeting the Heuweloord community as they believe it is easy 'pickings' for themselves.

“I read about all the crime in the on a weekly basis and I must commend the paper for always educating the community with regard to tactics that these rotten criminals use and informing us of the high crime rate in our area so that we remain vigilant. In this way, residents become wise to these devious rogues. I honestly believe that only by standing together, can we get rid of this escalating crime in our area!” said Nitesh emphatically.
