Superb 7 Distinctions: Matric Shining Stars of 2017


Ummi Kulthum, 18 - (Al Asr) of 7th Avenue, Laudium, scored seven distinctions, with a superb aggregate of 94%. She said that she had mentally prepared herself not to have high expectations but knew she had done well prior to the results, because she had received an invitation from the Education Department to attend a ceremony to honour top matriculants. Ummi achieved distinctions in English, Afrikaans, Maths, Accounting, Physical Science, CAT and LO. “I was confused at first about what to study, but finally decided on a career in Health Sciences. I will either study Medicine at Wits or Dentistry at the University of Pretoria.”

Hannan Petker (Amity International) of Swanepoel Street, Erasmia, achieved 7 distinctions in English, Afrikaans, Mathematics, Life Orientation, Physics, Accounting and Economics. "I have been accepted at the University of Pretoria to study Actuarial Science. This is a course I have been aiming for since grade 6. I am extremely happy with my achievements."

 

Fatima NoorMahomed, 18 - (CIS) of Aletta Street, Erasmia, scored 7 distinctions in Accounting, Afrikaans, Arabic, CAT, Life Orientation, Mathematics and Physical Science. "I would like to thank my parents and teachers for supporting me every step of the way and for providing me with such a wonderful education. Allah has truly blessed me. I intend on studying Sports Science at the University of Pretoria."
