Minors appear in court for possession of metal clips

Three minors appeared at the Lenasia Magistrates' Court on February 28, on a charge of possession of stolen property.

On Tuesday, February 27, at about 10 am, security officials received a tip-off from the owner of a recycling business informing them of the three minors who had come to his business to have metal clips weighed in exchange for cash.

The metal clips are used to secure rail tracks.

A swift reaction by the security officers led to the arrest of two of the minors, aged 15 and 16.

According to Sergeant Khalipha Mvula of the Lenasia South SAPS, the third minor, aged 16, managed to flee when he noticed the security official's vehicle approaching the business premises, but his freedom was cut short as he was traced and arrested at his home in Finetown.

"The minors were charged and released into their guardian's supervision after they were formally warned to appear at the Lenasia Magistrates' Court," said Sergeant Mvula.
