No justice for Seata Ramla after 2 years

On April 7, 2016, her life was cut short by criminals who shot and robbed her off her 2 cell phones and R150.

Mrs Seata Ramla of Lenasia was shot at the corner of Lancaster Street and Wimbledon Street, while on her way back from work.

After the incident she managed to crawl to a nearest cafe, the owner of which contacted the family. She was then taken to a hospital where she died on the April 11, 2016 –  four days later. Two suspects were arrested after four weeks of the incident.

More than 27 month has gone by, and the case is still in court.

Matesh Ramla, the son of the deceased, said the family needed closure and the justice system is making it difficult for them. Ramla stated that all evidence led to the suspects but no verdict has been passed as yet. The family does not understand why is it taking so many years for the court to pass judgement.

Matesh said the whole family is still mourning.

He elaborated, "We are all emotionally drained. After my mom's death, my father's health deteriorated. The children are also inconsolable, they are broken. I feel that there is no proper justice system in South Africa. This, to our eyes, is one of the easiest cases because the evidence is before the court. However, it is two years down the line and we are still waiting for justice to prevail."

He added, "We are unsettled as a family and we need justice to take its cause. We have in the past witnessed convicts who were supposed to spend their entire life in prison roaming the streets. We don't want the same to happen in this case. Criminals must not be allowed on our streets because they keep on hurting innocent people. These criminals have taken the cornerstone of our family and they deserve the maximum sentence.

The owner of the gun is serving two years in prison while the one who allegedly pulled the trigger is out on bail. The judgment has been reserved for July 24, 2018", added Matesh.
